School is back in session!!!!!

Yesterday was a big day at the Wetzel house. All four kids headed to school. The youngest three are at Celia Hays Elementary (Daniel - 3rd Grade, Ava - Kindergarten full day, and Aslynn - PreK half day mornings). The girls were the most excited about going to school. All three enjoyed their teachers and their day. Ava started fall soccer practice last night, so she was exhausted after her big day! Derek started 7th grade (7th and 8th grade are middle school here) at Williams Middle School. His school has up around 2000 kids in those two grades, just for the north part of town. The building is huge! He is taking Pre-AP classes in math, science and English/reading. He is taking Texas history. He is in choir and is taking boy's athletics, which turns into football practice at the end of the day. So, he stays at school until 5:15 each day. He is definitely mourning the loss of his free time and is trying to adjust to all these changes. He takes things very seriously, so we know he will do great! Mom had a tremendously long day yesterday, between playing taxi to all this and worrying about her first child entering the stage of a big middle school. 5:15 could not come soon enough for me either! :) Hopefully, today will be another successful one, and we will get into a routine of some sort!

And they say girls are high maintenance!!!!!!!!!!!

These pictures are mostly for Uncle Jeff, who is a hair geek, and the grandparents. If you don't know Derek well, what you might want to know about him is that he loves/loved his long hair. Because of football (rules and sanity from the heat), Derek had to make a decision about his hair. His wonderful hairstylist is someone Derek really respects as far as haircutting goes. He had talked Derek into just cutting it off instead of trying to do a half-way job. He thought he would like it better in the end. He was shocked when Derek walked in today and had him actually do it! We are so glad we did it this weekend, as Derek has major whitewalls and white patches where hair used to be. Needs a quick tan before school! :) We think he looks sharp. He kind of look like how he did when he was 6, don't you think? He is with his friend tonight at the Texas Ranger's game. He was hoping the shock would wear off his friend before school starts. :)
Daniel got his hair cut, too. Daniel is very particular about not having his hair buzzed like it was the first few years of his life. He has to have some bangs, or he feels naked! He got a simple short haircut that also can be spiked a little like Derek's if he so chooses. He could have the worst haircut and still be cute, I think. Don't people always say that it is the girls who are all crazy and picky about their hair? This has been the most stressful day. Now if we can just find someone who actually carries and has Tea Tree Shaping Creme in stock, we will be back on easy street..................................................

Did I tell you it gets really HOT in Texas??????????

We enjoyed being at the pool by Uncle Phil's lake house last weekend. The videos are of the two girls showing off their swimming abilities. Aslynn's is first. Ava's is second. Neither have had swimming lessons yet. Aslynn was a fish in a previous life, I believe. Ava has come a LONG way from being scared of the water. Oh, by the way, Ava is sporting a new hole in her mouth. She has lost her third tooth! I am considering knocking out all of my teeth, as the tooth fairy leaves much more than I remember these days!
